Tackling Kings

This blog will be dedicated to the underrated tacklers of the competition. Andrew Swallow and Domenic Cassisi are who I’m talking about. Swallow is at a decent 499k entering round 5 while Cassisi is as a low 415k. Both facing the same breakeven at 107, which is well within their reach. Both slip under many supercoachers radar as they aren’t big names. Cassisi is the captain at port but was overshadowed by Burgoyne most of his career. This is just to get their name out their for our loyal readers.

Swallow is a nice young player with a big future ahead of him with the building Kangaroos. Coming off a breakout year but being a key midfielder alongside Harvey and Anthony to help steer the Roos in the right direction going forward. Last year Swallow picked up a stunning 152 tackles in all (averaging roughly 7 tackles per game). Has started this year right where he left off with 34 tackles in just the 4 games. He’s one to look out for if he is firing. He is very capable of massive scores, highlighted last year by a  177 point effort in round 21 against St. Kilda. You have to admit that is pretty darn impressive for a young kid fighting for a spot in the team at the start of the year. Still can’t handle the tag as well as he can, but with Harvey and Anthony there, I wouldn’t expect Swallow to be tagged so hard most of the time.

Domenic Cassisi has long been one of my favourites down at Port. If you have seen him play, you know he plays with his heart. He is one real tough nut who isn’t afraid to get down and dirty. With 162 tackles last year, should be considered a Tackling King. He may not be the best ball handler in the competition, but if you can get alot of tackles, they can add up. Has had a fairly slow start to the year, but this is a good thing for those considering cassisi (me being one). Knowing he can average over 100 is always a plus (done in 2008 with an average of 104). May be a tad inconsistent with a few scores bobbing under 60 but is generally a guy who gets you 80+ week in, week out with some scores 130+. Not a big fan of kicking the ball, but the ratio of kicks to handballs has come down so far this year. Expect him to pick up his game next few weeks and don’t expect him to be that cheap for much longer.

Pick Him Now- A Bag Of Pods

Hello SCA readers, this is my second Pick Him Now post, this week I will talk about Podsiadly and Rockliff and who you can trade them in for. Hope you enjoy it 😉

On the Up

Tom Rockliff- The kid has had to wait on the sidelines for two weeks before being called up due to injuries to regulars in the team. He has put out two good score with 78 in round 3 and 96 in round 4. He has a low breakeven of 107 and is set to rise in price massively. An upside to Rockliff over Pods is that Rocky plays midfield while Podsiadly is a KPP. Rockliff is looking like a good prospect but there is two issues. The first is the fact that had Brisbane not been hit by injuries he may not of made his debut yet, so who is to say he will hold his spot when those players come back? The second problem is who do we trade out? I think it is unfair to trade him out for Ziebell or Dangerfield, they are both young players who can make more money and give your team good scores. it is also a bit early to be trading out Gubleton or Hitchcock as they both still have more money to make, there is no doubt that you will make money out of picking Rocky, the question  really is, will it be enough to justify using the trade? That is a decision, you as a supercoach, must make.

James Podsiadly- A good player who has been sitting in the VFL for far to long, he has finally gotten a chance to prove himself at AFL level and he looks hungry, he wants to play at the highest level and he wants to be playing every week. He is 28 so he has a big body, he has kicked a bag of goals in both weeks scoring 102 & 96 and has a very low breakeven of -147, again the worry for Pods is job security, although if he keeps playing like he has in the last couple of weeks I can’t see how Bomber could possibly drop him. Again there is no question that he will make you money, but enough? Also even though he has come out with two big scores being a KPP he will obviously be very capable of very low scores.

Coming Down

Ryan Hargrave

Put this guy on your watchlist. Going down early against the Hawks giving him a score of 9 backed up with a score of 67, he has dropped under 400k and with a seemingly unreachable BE of 167 he is bound to drop further. The only question is that with Gilbee returning to form after a down year last year, how will it effect Hargraves scoring? I personally think that he will be back soon and scoring like he did last year. But that again, is your call.

Sam Mitchell

This guy is WAY to cheap, and although people will be scared of by horrible scoring early, for a guy that started the year at 570k, dipping to 470k this quickly and a BE of 161 in a couple of weeks this guy will be to much to resist. At the rate that he is going he may be a straight trade from a rookie. even though people might be horrified by his scores I think a guy that was a premium at that price is a must have, you are crazy if you pass him up.

Happy Supercoaching.

Another Step Up

This little piece is going to be about 2 guys from 2 very different team. These guys don’t play the same position but are looming to take that next step up into premium status. 1 is from Melbourne and the other from Geelong. I’m talking about Brent Moloney and Harry Taylor.

Brent Moloney is in his prime as an AFL player. At the ripe age of 26 looks to be able to finally break into that elusive premium status. An up and coming midfield doesn’t hurt his chances either. Doesn’t play a tagging role but usually goes head to head against the other teams 2nd or 3rd best player. He has been averaging a decent 22 possessions a game and a respectable 6 tackles a game. Does have a good running game and gets alot of clearances and inside 50’s for it. A great unique pick up for those thinking outside of the box.

Harry Taylor is a typical Key Position Player. Doesn’t get alot of possessions in a packed Geelong defence, but when he does, boy does he make it count. He may be a very up and down rollercoaster ride this year, but if he can replicate the game he played against Port, he may just be worth it. He’s got a good AFL body and isn’t afraid to take marks in a pack. Does like zoning off his opponent and get a few tackles. The only thing that may worry people is that he handballs alot more than he kicks and that he may not get those 20+ possession games every week (but every fortnight is very possible). He is a risky pick but one worth taking for those who like a punt.

In A Pickle – Roo goes TWANG

Hello sca readers, this is my ‘In A Pickle’ blog. For those of you who have never read before this where I evaluate a situation that coaches have been handed this week. This week it’s Roo, and possible trade options. Hope you enjoy it 😉

Well as I’m sure you all know, Roo is down and out until the second half of the season with a hamstring, and after 2 blinders in rounds 1 and 2 a lot of coaches brought him in, and a lot had him from the start. The fact he was scoring well makes it that much harder to replace him. Here are the people I think are good trade options.

Paul Chapman – Chasin’ the points. Well, Chappy in my opinion, is the most likely to be able to replace the scores that Roo was giving coaches, although a lot of coaches are scared off by the fact that he’s ‘injury prone’ he can pull out scores like no othere forward. He can move into the midfield and he breaks games open, all helping his SC scores. Although for me not the best option, because trading him in, then out after the inevitable injury will be 2 trades.

Ryan O’Keefe – The Form. The guy is in blinding form and it would seem like Sydney has altered their game style this year, allowing their players fantasy scores to receive a welcome boost. He will be a good option for the long term, although the downside is, him being in such good form, he is higher in price than you’d care to pay for him. For me the second best option

Higgins – the cash. This guy is a freak, a great player who has been held back by injury so far in his career. Given he plays 22 games, this guy could potentially be a very good replacement for Roo, giving you 120k and a quality player who should be a keeper. Although like with Chappy, if you pick him you have to be ok with the risk of having to trade him out again later in the season. With the Bulldogs seemingly improving this year so are his scores, he has averaged around the 104 so far this season with his highest being 109 and lowest 99, he looks to be a reliable ton scorer for your team every week.

In order of points I’d rate them like this

1. Chapman

2. ROK

3. Higgins

But I still think that Higgins is the best trade option, a great player and will give you money to work with in other parts of the ground.

Happy Supercoaching 😉

Premium-To-Be Midfielders This Year?

This little post is going to be about 2 midfielders I believe have what it takes to crack premium status after a few good weeks. Both have had pretty good previous years and I expect big things to come from these 2 guys in the future. Both have gone almost unnoticed this year with only about 5,000 selections shared between these 2.

Kade Simpson is the first I will be talking about. Entering into his prime years at 26 years old, he’s been in the system for a while. Without Judd in the lineup, Simpson has had a few great weeks highlighted by a 141 point game last round. He has also been able to add 4.2 to the blues scoreboard. Without any real good options up forward, the blues are relying on their midfielders to kick goals. Has also had 18 tackles and 19 marks. This shows he has had a good all round game this year so far. With Judd coming back, should only help him as he won’t be getting any attention. Teams are starting to see the impact he has on games and have began tagging him. Not to much effect though.

The next big thing down at Adelaide seems to be a little known kid going by the name David Mackay. This guy doesn’t do much other than get 20+ possessions a game. He will get a good 2 or 3 tackles a game with a few marks here and there but not much else. How does he pull out 100+ scores when he prefers to handball over kicking? Look at when he kicks and you will have your answer. Being left open in space on the wings, you think he would take advantage of the kicking. With Vince stealing all the spotlight at Adelaide after rocking the fantasy world last year, this guy has gone well under noticed. And if he stays this way, would be one to keep an eye out next year.

Underpicked Guns

Just wanted to write a little piece on a couple of guys who i consider severly underpicked.

Paul Duffield – with a tad under 10,000 picks he seems to be quite unique. coming off a break out year is always something to be cautious about but when a player can run and kick like him, doesn’t seem like a big risk. He was great last year and this year shows no signs of slowing down.

Heath Scotland – The guy is a possession machine. started this year with 2 30+ possession games. Only in 5,632 teams so is very unqiue. Is 30 mind you but doesn’t seem to be slowing. Last year only 2 games which he played were below 15 possessions, so you know he can rack the ball up. He is a tad injury prone but when you have the potential to score 130+ games often, i think he’s worth it.

Matt Priddis – This guy is underrated for what he brings to the table. In less than 4,000 teams seems to be odd. Was great last year even when under a tag. scores did dip but with kerr back, should see less of a tag at least. He wins alot of contested ball and is a tackling machine. Might need to only see about his kicking and he will surely be in alot more teams than that.

Brad Green – The most suprising for me. With only 1,355 teams choosing a former premium is shocking for me. I considered him for my own team but couldn’t fit him in. He is one of the only true fantasy scorers in a poor demons line up. He not only prefers to kick than handball but with davey moved to the midfield, will see him not cop the normal tag. This can only get better for him. A move up forward every now and again shouldn’t hurt his scores as he can kick goals. At the age of 29, still knows how to find the footy. Would keep an eye on him as we all should know he can score. Looks like the Green Fantasy Premium of old.

Pick Of The Week- Solid as a ROK

Hey readers, this is my ‘pick of the week’ blog. I will release it every week the day after the last match has been played. I’ll crunch numbers, evaluate form and do provide my opinions. I hope you enjoy it. 😉

This weeks pick of the week is……..

Ryan O’Keefe! ROK has performed well in Sydneys first two matches, scoring 117 in Sydneys first round loss St. Kilda, and in their win over the Crows he pulled out a monster score of 167, he kicked 3 goals and racked up 29 touches taking 5 marks in a dominant performance against a hapless Adelaide. He looks like improving his average from last year with more midfield this year. With a lot of people trading out the likes of Boomer Harvey and Robbie Gray this week Brown has been the focal point of forward trading this week, I think with all of this hype Ryan has slipped under the radar a little and even people with the cash in hand to get him are bypassing him in favor of Brown. His contested work was fantastic and looked extremely dangerous against Adelaide, I like the look of him and he’s a prime upgrade target for me with these last two performances.

If you have the cash don’t hesitate to pick ROK over JB, I think both will score well but with mid time O’Keefe can take it to the next level

Happy Supercoaching 😉

Hello

Hello readers of sca101. My name is Hellopplz and I will be a very casual writer for the blog. I am not one to write long blogs but instead nice short little pieces on players that I feel need more attention for them. I am rarely going to talk about popular picks or hyped up players as I feel they get enough attention. I’m sort of  letting people step back and see the wider selection of players out there. I will post something up later today about a few unqiue picks that I am suprised not many had faith in to select. I have not selected these players but instead kept a close eye on them.
